Alpha-lipoic acid is a natural, sulphur-containing compound.
The body produces alpha-lipoic acid itself, but it can also be obtained from food.

Standard supplements usually contain a mix of 50% S- and 50% R-lipoic acid.
Because S-lipoic acid is synthetic and inactive, such supplements only delivers half the benefit.
