N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is the non-essential amino acid cysteine with an acetyl group. The body uses L-cysteine for the production of amino acids such as serine and methionine, as well as the tripeptide glutathione. N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine is quickly absorbed by the body.
