What are essential amino acids?
Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. After digestion, proteins are broken down into amino acids, which are then used by the body to build new proteins.
Nine amino acids are considered essential. The body cannot produce these itself, so they need to be obtained through food.
For normal protein formation, all essential amino acids need to be available. If one is missing, this process may be limited.
