What is Pentadecanoic acid (C15:0)?

Pentadecanoic acid is a saturated fatty acid with a chain of 15 carbon atoms, chemically noted as C15:0. It is found in small amounts in milk fat and even smaller amounts in some types of meat, fish, and plants. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in C15:0 as a nutrient.

Stephanie Venn-Watson, a veterinary epidemiologist, first discovered the role of pentadecanoic acid in dolphins. Further research showed that C15:0 also plays a role in other species. Various studies have now been conducted with C15:0 as a supplement, including clinical studies in humans.

There is an ongoing debate within the scientific community about whether C15:0 could be a third essential fatty acid, alongside alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3) and linoleic acid (omega-6). An essential fatty acid cannot be made by the body and is necessary for health. So far, pentadecanoic acid is not officially recognised as an essential fatty acid.

Fatty15 delivers 100 mg of FA15™ pentadecanoic acid. FA15™ is synthetically produced pentadecanoic acid with a purity of at least 98%. This form of C15:0 is made without animal products and is, therefore, suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
In clinical research, FA15™ was dosed at 100 mg per day, the same dosage as fatty15.
