MSM: natural source of sulphur

Life Extension MSM contains high-dose methylsulphonylmethane (MSM), a natural source of sulphur. MSM occurs naturally in the body and in vegetables. Each capsule contains 1000 mg MSM, so you get to a relevant dose quickly.

Use of sulphur in the body

MSM is a natural sulphur-containing substance. It is found in fresh plant products, such as vegetables, fruits and nuts, and is rapidly lost when heated or dried. It is also a by-product of processing methionine and cysteine, two sulphur-containing amino acids.

Sulphur is needed to make methionine and cysteine. Among other things, cysteine is a building block for glutathione.

Methionine and cysteine are structurally important for the 3D structure of some proteins. These amino acids can form strong bonds called sulphur bridges. This allows proteins to fold into themselves and interconnect. This is important for collagen, an important connective tissue protein consisting of three interwoven protein chains, among others.
