Why a vitamin D3 & K2 combination supplement?

Vitamin D3 and K2 are both fat-soluble vitamins that contribute to calcium regulation in the body. Vitamin D3 contributes to the uptake of calcium from food to keep the blood calcium levels constant. Vitamin K2 contributes to the delivery of calcium to tissues that require it for their function, such as bones. In this manner, both vitamins are needed to properly balance calcium regulation.

About vitamin D3

Vitamin D3 is naturally made by the body when the skin is exposed to direct sunlight. This is why you make more vitamin D3 in the summer than you do in the winter. Because vitamin D3 is fat-soluble, the excess vitamin D3 produced during the summer can be stored in fat tissue for use during the winter. Regardless, many people will not be exposed to sufficient sunlight to provide for their yearly vitamin D3 needs. In that case, a vitamin D3 supplement can be used to compensate for a deficit during winter.

About vitamin K

Vitamin K is found in 2 forms: vitamin K1 and vitamin K2. The two forms each have their preferred roles in the body. Vitamin K1 is better suited to contribute to blood coagulation, whereas vitamin K2 is more effective for regulating bone calcium absorption. Vitamin K1 is commonly found in plants. Most people won't have a vitamin K1 deficiency if they eat plenty of vegetables.

Vitamin K2 is made during the process of fermentation. This is why vitamin K2 is almost exclusively found in fermented food products. Unless you eat a lot of fermented foods, you probably won't have a high vitamin K2 intake.

Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) from sheep's wool

Cholecalciferol is the most bio-available form of vitamin D. Vitamin D3 in nature occurs almost exclusively in animal products. To make BrainEffect Vitamin D3+ oil suitable for people that prefer not to use animal products, BrainEffect uses vitamin D3 from lanoline. Lanoline is fat from sheep's wool that remains after the wool has been cleaned for further processing. In this manner, the vitamin D3 is of animal origin, but not produced at the expense of the animal.

Vitamin K2 from soybean oil

Vitamin K2 is often produced synthetically. The synthetic form of vitamin K2 is called MK-4. BrainEffect Vitamin D3+ oil contains the natural form of vitamin K2 (K2 MK-7 or menaquinone). BrainEffect uses soybean oil to produce vitamin K2.

The advantage of natural vitamin K2 MK-7 is that it remains in the body for longer than the synthetic vitamin K2 MK-4.

MCT oil from coconuts

Fat-soluble vitamins are better absorbed when taken with fat or a fat-rich meal. For this reason, BrainEffect Vitamin D3+ oil is made with MCT oil from coconuts. This oil is generally well tolerated and saturated, which means it's resistant to oxidation damage.

Ingredients & Usage

BrainEffect advises taking 1-4 drops daily. Adjust the dosage to the season (more during winter, less during summer) and your personal needs. For example: take 1 drop per day during summer and 2-4 drops per day during winter. Have your vitamin D levels checked regularly to get notified about a deficiency or excess.

Take BrainEffect Vitamin D3+ Oil in the morning, for example as part of or with your breakfast. Add the drops to a beverage or meal with fat for better absorption of the vitamins.
